The Luffing cranes stand out in the United Kingdom

Two J380PA have participated in the construction of two Marriott hotels near Scotland’s largest exhibition centre.

Requirement

The Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow, one of the most popular entertainment venues in the world, which is home to the famous “SSE Hydro” and the “SEC Armadillo” is expanding its facilities as a result of the great impact of the events sector on the local and national economy. To meet the demand for accommodation in the surrounding area, the Marriott hotel chain is building two hotels, a Courtyard and a Moxy, to increase the areas capacity to 450 rooms.

Solution

Our UK partner, Falcon Tower Crane Services Ltd, supplied two J380PA cranes with luffing jibs to Robertson Construction, who was awarded this project.

The J380PA crane proved to be the most suitable for this project due to its high maximum load capacity of 36 tonne and its 3.5 tonne tip load. What’s more, this model has the advantage of having the DP/2R/3R configuration with an outstanding capacity of 12 tonne line pull at an awesome speed of 45m/min (DP), as shown on the load chart.

One of the advantages of this crane and the reason why it was the preferred option for this project is its reduced free slewing park radius system. This is very important for places which have limited space and restrictions are required to minimise invading or passing over certain areas. Another of this luffing crane’s strengths is its capacity to reach great free-standing heights using sections with a footprint of just 2 metres.

All this makes the J380PA the right crane for this project, which requires significant load capacity while being used in confined spaces or in areas with a lot of surrounding buildings.
