Tower cranes for shipyards: JASO solutions tailored to the demands of the naval sector
4 / 11 / 2026
Shipbuilding, maintenance and repair operations pose significant lifting challenges. No two shipyards are alike: available space, the loads to be handled, working radii, required heights, quay characteristics and environmental conditions all call for equipment that can adapt to the specifics of each project.
Our in-house engineering allows us to develop tailor-made configurations, adapted to the characteristics and operations of each shipyard.
We offer a wide range of solutions, from luffing or hammerhead cranes to fixed or rail-mounted configurations, to meet different requirements for capacity, reach, height and mobility.
Our luffing cranes, in particular, are designed to work in confined spaces, a key advantage in shipyards, where operations may be constrained by other cranes, vessels, buildings or infrastructure.
We can also develop tailor-made travelling portal bases, which allow the crane to move along the facility and extend its working area. These structures can be adapted to the specific dimensions and characteristics of the quay, and can even allow vehicles to pass underneath when the project requires it.
Built for coastal environments
Working in a shipyard means constant exposure to humidity, salinity and demanding environmental conditions.
For coastal and offshore projects, JASO can apply specific corrosion protection systems, such as the UNE-EN ISO 12944 C5M-H paint standard, designed for coastal and offshore environments with high salinity.
JASO experience in shipyards
JASO cranes have already taken part in a number of projects linked to the naval and port industry.
Our references include the United States Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, where our largest luffing crane, the J780PA.60, has taken part in the expansion of the shiplift system used for vessel rehabilitation.
This experience is complemented by projects at shipyards in Valencia and Cartagena, Spain; Ferguson Marine in Glasgow; and Auckland (New Zealand), as well as other international projects carried out with our partners.
This track record in the naval sector, combined with our engineering and manufacturing capabilities, enables us to develop lifting solutions tailored to the specific needs of each shipyard.
