The United States Coast Guard was in search of a crane to aid in ship rehabilitation at their Baltimore facilities. Their requirements were highly specific: a lifting capacity of 28 tons (60,000 pounds) in 30 meters (100 ft) reach, 30 US ton at 27 meters (90 ft), a main boom of 55 meters (180 feet), an auxiliary hook (fly jib) with a 9-ton (20,000 pounds) lifting capacity, resistance to corrosion in a marine environment, connectivity for preventative maintenance, and a long lifespan, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From JASO Tower Cranes and Crane Tech Solutions, our partner on the East Coast of the United States, we proposed a tailor-made solution featuring our Optimus Line technology: our largest Luffing crane to date and one of the largest in the market, equipped with a paint treatment resistant to extreme environmental conditions, Smartlink, high-speed motors, and Opticube for transportation optimization. Additionally, we incorporated our JL25 elevator to make access to the cabin ergonomic for the Coast Guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crane, a J780PA.60, boasts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • A maximum reach of 70 meters (230 feet)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • A tip load of 6 tons (12,000 pounds) * 6.2-ton (12,400 pounds) in the J780PA<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • A maximum load of 60 tons (120,000 punds) *75-ton (150,000 pounds) in the J780PA<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Optimus Line, a package of our proprietary technology that includes our latest advancements for a more cost-effective, sustainable, secure, and interconnected crane<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    All of these features made the J780PA.60 the preferred choice for the USCG, which selected it in a competition that involved leading international tower crane providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The crane assembly, carried out through Wings Enterprises Inc., lasted just three days, from the installation of the first mast sections to securing the main hoist and auxiliary hook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The J780PA.60 began operation in July 2022 and remains active to this day. “The project exemplifies teamwork between JASO Tower Cranes, CTS, and the US Coast Guard,” stated Frank Hegan, President of CTS. “The USCG has a crane that meets its current requirements but also provide one that has a higher capacity should it be required in the future\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
